Muruddeniya school was established in the early 1909 as a mixed school with thirteen students. The 50 x 20 building was built during the time of the principal Mr. W.O.T Banda, who served from 1922 to 1940. during the tenure of the principal Mr. T.B Abeykoon a new two story building was constructed. the building with the teacher’s quarters was constructed during the tenure of the principal Mr. H.B Ihalagedara. the commencement of the advance level classes also took place during this period of time.

Electricity and water facilities were provided to the school during the time of the principal, Mr. H.H.M.B Kituldora from 1986 – 1991. due to the patronage of the principal, Mr. K.P.B Weerakon who served from 1991- 1999 the construction of the multi- purpose building commenced with the permanent commencement of the advanced level classes. it was during this time that the school, which had hitherto been a junior school was transformed into a secondary school. school bands were started under the leadership of the teacher Mrs G.W.K Manike. Mr. H.M Gunathilaka, who was the principal from 2003 to 2012, initiated audio-visual unit, the installation of a computer unit and a new library building.

Under the leadership of Mr.W.M.B Wedagedara from 2012 to the present, a great deal of work can be done to improve the education of the school children through the regularization of the office and improvement of the student welfare. there are number of future development proposals for the current work.
